Calculated equilibrium pCO 2 (mbar) and mass loss rates (mg/second) at different pressures for a <150 μm particle size calcite sample. After an initial high rate, the mass loss rates at all pressures approach the equilibrium pCO2 line, indicating that the reaction rate is limited by CO2 removal rate. No units or values are given for the Y axis because each line has been vertically shifted to better illustrate the rate-limiting effects of equilibrium pCO2. The spikes in the mass loss data are from transients in the TG data, unduly emphasized by taking the second derivative.
